My Most Enjoyable BVI Sailing Vacation
I have always been fascinated with the BVI and the beauty of all the islands. In fact, I have watched all the travel videos I can get my hands on and finally, when I got my opportunity to have a BVI Sailing vacation with my family, I was really overjoyed.
The British Virgin Islands is indeed a very remarkable place to visit. The islands are so varied in terrain and foliage. Within a small area, you can see so many types of scenery. Snorkeling here is really amazing and I think it is the best place for sailing. The seas are seldom very rough and there’s always a gentle breeze. . The islands give a good line of site so it is not difficult even for a novice navigator to find their way.
I was initially worried that my kids would be bored but I needn’t have to worry about that.
They had such a good time playing in the sand in many places and swimming especially with the sea turtles in Great Harbour. They also enjoyed the exploration like all kids love to. Their favorite was the Baths on Virgin Gorda where climbing up and around the boulders was the excitement of their day.
There are many choices of yacht that you can charter here to meet your needs. The one we selected was a 46 footer with broad hulls that had four cabins. She was a fast boat and provided most of the things we needed. Overall, we had a lot of fun sailing her.
My favorite place is Norman Island which was the inspiration for "Treasure Island". I just love Privateer's Bay with the rock cliffs nearby and a private little beach. We snorkeled, swam and kayaked to our heart’s content. The tropical fish and coral here is simply beautiful. The place is uninhabited except for goats which the children enjoyed chasing. They also had an enjoyable time exploring the caves like in the books and movies.
We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the BVI especially in the evening at the cockpit with a cold beer and a nice meal. What a contrast with the hustle and bustle of city life. It was also an opportunity for us to get close to each other.
A BVI sailing vacation to me is truly a vacation of a lifetime. And a very memorable one too. I think everyone should try it out especially if you love sailing. I will never forget my time here and my kids will have so much to write about it even years after the vacation.
